If your Epson L382 or Epson L386 printer is showing the error message “Ink pad is at the end of its service life, contact Epson”, it means the printer’s internal waste ink pad counter has reached its limit. This is a common issue with Epson ink tank printers after long usage. You will notice that the ink light and paper light may start blinking, and the printer will stop printing.
The good news is, you can easily reset this error at home using the Epson Adjustment Program.
Why Does This Error Appear?
Epson printers have an internal waste ink pad that absorbs excess ink during cleaning cycles. Over time, the printer tracks the amount of ink that goes into the pad. Once the counter reaches a certain limit, the printer automatically stops working to prevent overflow, even if the pad is not physically full yet.
Steps to Reset Ink Pad Error on Epson L382 and L386
- Download the Epson Adjustment Program for your printer model (Epson L382 or Epson L386). Find the link below.
- Turn off Antivirus or Windows Defender temporarily because the utility may be flagged as suspicious due to its executable nature.
- Run the Adjustment Program on your computer.
- Select your printer model and port.
- Go to Waste Ink Pad Counter option.
- Check the boxes and click Initialize to reset the counter.
- Turn the printer off and on again to complete the reset.
Important Notes
- Make sure to also clean or replace the physical waste ink pad if it is actually saturated with ink.
- Always keep your antivirus disabled only while running the program, and enable it again afterward.
- Avoid frequent cleaning cycles to reduce unnecessary ink waste.
